Ran out of time today so trying a quick create character from the 2nd edition of Delve along with the Companion book that adds Gnomes.
Step 1: Choose Race.
Picking Gnomes, as I've never played one. Would be a tough play in a lot of ways. In the Delve lore, Gnomes used to work for Dwarves, and are the ones who actually created those amazing contraptions. Gnomes are inventors and thinkers
Step 2: Attributes
3d6 for the base attribute.
Dexterity: 7 (35%). Pretty darn clumsy!
Endurance: 6 (30%)
Learning: 15 (75%). Okay, so this is actually working out for the Gnome! And because I'm a Gnome, it is + 10%
Vitality: 8 (40%)
Empathy: 11 (55%)
Derived Stats
Hit points: base vitality x2 = 16
Magic points: 1 (so not very magical!) However, Gnomes start with 6! So woot!
Scars & Deformity
72 = fast talker. Oddly, when I get nervous, I talk way too fast. If I played this character, I'd need to channel my inner nervousness!
Pace
20'. Most races get 30', so yes, short, hmm, never rolled for gender, even for a female Gnome.

Traits
Gnomes can choose between alchemy, bargain and tinker. Going with Tinker from her smarts. This means she is good at finding parts and gets a 10% bonus when searching for tools and parts to build or repair something.
Class
There is not really a builder/craftsperson type of class per se, but magic users can work for this Gnome. In looking at a mage vs a witch, gender aside I think the witch fits better for a tinkerer. A witch starts with Brew, casting and herbology skills, and can pick 2 more at trained. Crafting is a new skill from the companion book and choosing Search as she will be searching for parts and supplies.
For 3 known skills, picking Knowledge - mechanical devises, Awareness, Ranged. Ranged may seem a tad odd, but she would be fighting from a distance as she could be squashed easily (though not really in terms of pure game mechanics, but there is a theme here!)

Raised in the catacombs of Thistler, the Gnome tinkers clan built mechanical toys that would hop and dance about when wound up. Often imbued with magic, these little devices would seem almost alive. Clorwil learned more than tinkering from her clan, though. Keeping their demesne hidden, she learned to forage in the countryside to gather ingredients for her magical potions. Healing potions to the vilest poison, Clorwil became a master brewer. She also makes a very fine mead!
Now wandering about, she is a shy Gnome who sits in the corner, all too often on a child's booster seat, watching the tavern crowd to see if there is a group she could join to see more of the island they are all trapped on.
If I ever play her as a character, I'll do a more formal character sheet.
