Character Challenge 2023: 18/31: OSE

Looks like the next game I'll run for the group will be an OSE dungeon-crawling one. Though the next game I run after that I will do a SF bounty hunter, and probably Traveller. So I'll need a few NPCs, and having a half-painted fighter mini, think I'll roll up some stats until a good set comes along. I was also testing some sparkly paint, so she has green sparkly hair. Not sure if I should make her an Elf in that case, an astoundingly non-typical Orc or half-Orc, or a human who has peculiar shampoo that turns her hair green and sparkly. Or perhaps she has some fairy lineage. Hmm, that could work for a backstory that only comes out in bits and pieces.

Fighters prime requisite is strength. So I'll roll my 3d6 until I get something well above average, then the rest of the rolls will be the rest of the rolls. I may do that as a home-brew rule, though I really prefer straight as rolled.

Anyway, 4 rolls later I get a 15.

  • Strength: 15 (+1, open doors on 3 in 6, +5% XP)
  • Intelligence: 11 (is literate in Common)
  • Wisdom: 15 (+1 on magic saves)
  • Dexterity: 8 (-1 AC, -1 missile, -1 initiative)
  • Constitution: 10
  • Charisma: 12
We have a very strong fighter, but pretty clumsy! And rolling my d4 she will be a level 2 human fighter. With 2d8 HP, she has 10 hit points, and I'll start her XP just at 2nd level of 2000XP. Too bad I did not roll a 4 - that would give her a +2 on her AC, helping that clumsiness of hers! In OSE, the levels are really mostly in sets of 3 for fighters: they get mor ehit dice but the saves and other adjustments are the same.

Merry Swingsword

A woman who follows her family's trade: hired swords. For several generations, the Swingswords have been producing excellent fighters, hired out as personal guards, adventurer party muscle or whoever pays well. As such, the Swingswords maintain no political preferences. Living a few miles from Fort Covenant, Merry is often hired as a caravan guard and has travelled the Ocean Trade Route more times than she likes to think. With her sparkling green hair and fair looks, she is often mistaken for an Elf or some other Fey-born. She never says. While her mother and father could hold their liquor, Merry unfortunately gets drunk after a single draft, and will never be able to finish her second draft. She tends to not drink much as a result, particularly as she is a mean drunk and picks fights readily. Boisterous when in town, when on duty she is serious and focused. There is a slight accent that no one has yet figured out where it comes from.
