Being a mostly Traveller blog, my first character challenge for 2024 is of course a Traveller character. I still like rolling and then trying to find a character from the stats. While a lot of people have a character idea and go from there, most of the time I'll start with the stats and go from there. One of the reasons I prefer random character generation as you never know what you will get.

Mostly average but with a very high dexterity. Looking through the classic books, there are 4 careers where the dexterity helps either enlistment or survival: Army, Belter, Doctors and Flyers. And I believe I've never done a flyer character before!
Flyers: Members of the Close Orbit and Airspace Control Command (the air force) of a world.
Term 1 Trace Hoolens joins the COAC on his home world, ready to serve and protect. He survives his first term, gains the first rank of pilot, but does not make an additional promotion. He gains the Grav Vehicles-1 skill, along with the Brawling-1 skill.
Term 2 Trace again does not get promoted, but does gain the Wheeled Vehicles-1 skill. Too busy flying and driving to get promoted!
Term 3 Again passed over for promotion, he does gain Pilot-1 but is tossed out of the corps.
Pilot Trace Hoolens 8C7986 age 30, Flyer
Grav-Vehicle 1, Brawling-1, Wheeled-Vehicles-1, Pilot-1.
Trace joined the COAC after his basic education was completed - he wanted to fly the skies and protect his planet. While his aspirations were high, his tenacity to stick with protocols and stay on task for promotions was not. After 12 years, the COAC did not renew his contracts for staying on with the force. Trace is now footloose and looking for employment at the starport, ready to put his years of driving and piloting experience to work. Easily distracted, Trace will react with his fists first when he feels he has been slighted. But he also moves on easily and never carries a grudge. Except for Captain Ali - she just rubbed him the wrong way and he feels she is the reason he was never promoted.
