An odd interstitial post. First, I made more progress on the software after that last post - I had some time and wanted to work on it Sunday. I'll have details in a bit, though tonight's game recap will probably come first. And I've got an idea, and will see if I can pull it off tonight :) As a hint, does the name Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs ring any bells? or at least tornado warnings :)
But the sad part was I got to thinking about people we've lost over the years. We've lost a number of people over on the COTI boards. While I don't know them personally, I've intereacted with them over the years. And I've also noticed a few people getting worried when some of our board friends don't post. Most of us over on COTI are older - Classic Traveller is probably a lot of 50+ year old people, mostly men.
But what was the odd moment for me is that two of the blogs I have linked on this page no longer have authors: the people behind the blogs have died. These electronic memories of people will stay up for a while, but eventually, like everything else, will close down and no longer be available. And it got me to thinking about all the stuff I have online. While I am not worried about it really (I'll be gone) all the stuff I've squirreled away will no longer be accessible. I do need to leave logins somewhere I suppose. But I also wonder if I could gift all the stuff I've actually bought over the years to someone or something. I know my family does not want it. Tried as I might, they never got into gaming.
And yeah, oddly I am at the point I do read the obituraries on occasion. I joke that the last suit I bought is my death suit, as I wear it to funerals more than anything else. There was a neice's wedding this last summer, but other than that, funerals. Guess getting older does change your perspective on a lot of things.
And I'll note that while I am 61 as of this post, I don't foresee any health issues or anything (well, I did an extra hard leg workout yesterday, so getting out of my seat is more difficult than usual!) but you never know when the random fish truck will careen into you! Life is strange that way.
But it was while checking my linked blogs for some reason that it hit me: those people will never post again. And it is an odd thought to realize that people following you (not that I have all that many but it is still gratifying that some people read this). Although, as I've said many times, it is mostly just me muttering to myself and that is good enough for me. And at least one of my posts is is Freelance Traveller, so a few other people will have read some of my non-linear postings. Heck, I've another TFT post that, as heretical as it is, may also get pushed to a fanzine. And I have credit for a trap years ago in another fanzine. Maybe I should get better at writing and do more things that can get published.
Anyway, I'll clean up the literal dead links - those blogs that no longer exist. I'll leave the ones up from those that are still active, and if anyone wants me to link their blog here, please let me know.
And as yet another quirky thought - I miss the Traveller WebRing. Hitting "random" on that was just pure gold in scratching my Traveller itch. There is the Freelance Traveller site listing here. I don't think I am listed on that page, but as not all of my posts are Traveller related, that's okay. And if I wasn't technically working right now, I'd dive into some of those sites. But alas, back into figuring out strange issues.
